# Installation Test for Abaqus

After the installation and configuration are completed, run the “Install\_Test” model to ensure DANTE software was installed properly. The Install\_Test can be executed from the DANTE Plugin, or from an Abaqus Command window. It may be necessary to copy the “Install\_Test” directory to a working directory to test the installation.

**To use the DANTE Plug-In,** follow the steps below:

* Open Abaqus CAE and navigate to the Install\_Test subdirectory in the DANTE installation and open the Abaqus CAE file “*Install\_Test\_ABQ\*\*\*.cae*” file.
* Open the DANTE Model Builder Plug-In, located in the Plug-ins tab in Abaqus CAE.
* Submit the job.
* Open and view the results. Please ensure the model **sta** file exist in the working directory, and DANTE variables can be viewed.

**To use an Abaqus command window (submitting jobs directly from command window without using Plugin),** follow the steps below:

* Determine a directory to run the test model
* Open an Abaqus command window, go to the directory using **cd** command
* Copy the model input file (*DANTE62a\_Install\_Test\_S4120\_abq\_t.inp*) to the working direcory
* Submit the job using \*“abaqus job=*DANTE62a\_Install\_Test\_S4120\_abq\_t”*, the model input file is used directory in submitting the job.
* check the generated files, and make sure the mode status file ***sta*** is generated and indicate a successful model run.
* Open and Abaqus Viewer to view the results.

**Troubleshooting Hints for DANTE FEA Linking to Abaqus Solver**

**Once the server is started, DANTE license should be granted to executing jobs. In case of calling licensing failures, please check the following troubleshooting hints:**

1. Checking whether the license server is up (if floating license is used). Go to the licensing tools directory (using “cd” command, default c:\DANTE\License). Type “lmdown” and enter. DANTELM Vendor deamon should show up as Figure below. If “DANTELM” is not shown, then the server is not started yet. Please start the DANTE license server as described before.

<figure><img src="/files/oC0HdEG7lgnhz0YeDaYy" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

```
Note: type “enter” directly in the command window above will leave the license sever untouched. To shut down the server, type “1 enter”, and the server will be shut down.
```

2\. Check the value assigned to “\*LICENSELOC” in the DCTRLA.CTL file, and make sure “@” is used at the beginning of the server name, and “;” is used at the end of the server name. “@localhost;” can be used if the job is running on the server.

3. In some cases, the port number before the “@server name” is required.
4. Check if “usub\_lib\_dir” is added to the abaqus\_v6.env file correctly.
5. Check if abaqus\_v6.env file is in the correct location. The abaqus\_v6.env file can also be stored in the current working directory “CWD” to take the highest priority. The priority of variables in the abqus\_v6.env file is: current working directory, user directory, and Abaqus installation directory.
6. Check and make sure the directory running jobs has no space or special character, and “write” permission is granted from the administrator.
